Mediterranean Water Properties at the Eastern Limit of the North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre since 1981

A high-quality hydrographic CTD and Argo float data was used to study the property changes along westward branch of Mediterranean Outflow Water (MOW) in northeast Atlantic between 1981 2018. In this period, temperature salinity are marked by periods cooling/freshening warming/salinification. Since 1981, MOW properties at core decreased −0.015 ± 0.07 °C year−1 −0.003 0.002 year−1. The different phases North Oscillation (NAO) influence main propagation pathways into basin, thus affecting trends determined within NAO-phases. show a strong correlation with NAO, NAO leading 8 7 years, respectively, indicating delayed response ocean forcing conditions. decrease oxygen concentration (−0.426 0.276 μmol kg−1 year−1) calculated for same period; however, no connection found.
